So here are the actual numbers, pulled from the services themselves, along with what you get for the money. I run one of these services, so read this with that in mind. I have tried to be straight about what the more expensive options give you that mine does not. ## **The short version** Professional song feedback in 2026 runs from about $1 to about $30 per song. The spread is not mostly about quality. It is about who is listening, how fast you get it back, and whether the business model assumes you will submit one song or fifty. ### **What the established services charge** **NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association International)** is the institution in this space. Membership runs $225 a year and includes 12 song evaluation credits. Additional evaluations are $25 each. There is also a monthly option at $20 a month on a one-year commitment. What you are buying is a professional songwriter's evaluation against a rubric, plus everything else membership includes. Strong songs can get promoted on their Top 40 page, forwarded to a Pitch the Publisher luncheon, or nominated as One to Watch. That access is real and it is the reason people join. Worth doing the math though: $225 for 12 evaluations is about $18.75 a song, and that is if you use every credit. Most people do not. **The Song Foundry** sells single critiques starting around $30. You get roughly 300 words covering what is working and what would make the song bolder or clearer. No membership, no commitment. You pay, you get a critique. **SongU** runs coach-based evaluations where you pick from a roster of hit songwriters, publishers, producers and former label reps. You can send the same song to several coaches for different perspectives, which is genuinely useful and priced accordingly. **Fiverr and similar marketplaces** will show you song feedback anywhere from $5 to $200. Quality varies wildly and you are largely gambling on the individual. Some of those people are excellent. Some have never had a cut. ### **What the AI tools charge** A newer category has appeared in the last couple of years: tools that analyze the audio itself and return a score. Most are free or close to it, and most are built for people making music with Suno, Udio and similar tools. They are fast and they are cheap, and for spotting obvious production problems they are useful. What they cannot do is tell you whether your second verse is saying anything, or whether a publisher would take the meeting. A model comparing waveforms does not know what a hook feels like at the end of a long day. ### **Where Song Refiners sits** A Standard review is $1. A Deep Dive, which is twice the depth and includes timestamped feedback and live chat with your reviewer, is $3. Refinery membership is $29.99 a month for 50 credits, which works out to about $0.60 a review. Your first review is free, and we do not ask for a card to give it to you. ### **The part that actually matters** Price is not really the point. What price changes is your behavior. At $25 a critique, you submit a song when you think it is finished. You read the feedback, you feel something about it, and you move on. You almost certainly do not pay another $25 to find out whether your rewrite worked. At under a dollar, you submit the rough version. Then the rewrite. Then the version after that. You watch the score move and you find out which changes actually mattered, which is the only way anybody has ever gotten better at anything. That is the real difference, and it is why we built the pricing the way we did. Songs get better through iteration, and iteration only happens when it is cheap enough to be routine. ### **What the expensive services still do better** I am not going to pretend otherwise. NSAI membership buys you access to the Nashville publishing machine. Pitch the Publisher, the Top 40 page, the industry relationships. If your goal is a cut with a major artist and you can afford the $225, that access is worth paying for and we do not replace it. A named coach at SongU who has had hits in your genre brings pattern recognition from inside that specific world. That is a real thing. What we do is different. We make honest, detailed feedback cheap enough and fast enough that you can use it as a normal part of writing rather than a special occasion. Those are not the same product, and depending on where you are, you might want both. ### **What I would tell you to do** If you are early and writing a lot, start cheap and iterate. The bottleneck is not access to a publisher, it is that your songs are not ready yet, and getting them ready takes repetitions. If you have three songs you genuinely believe are finished and you want industry doors opened, pay for the access. That is what it is for. If you are somewhere in the middle, which is most people, use cheap feedback to find out which of your songs are actually your best. Then spend the real money on those. Either way, do not let a $25 price tag be the reason you never find out what is wrong with a song.
