Kirsten Rockwell
Kirsten Rockwell is an East Tennessee–based songwriter whose work is rooted in story, character, imagery, and the complicated parts of being human. A former high school English teacher and lifelong writer, Kirsten came to songwriting through words first. Her songs often begin with an image, a phrase, an overheard thought, or an ordinary moment that refuses to leave her alone. From there, they can become anything from Southern Gothic and dark Americana to alternative rock, blues, folk, trip-hop, or something that doesn't fit neatly into a category at all. That range is intentional. Kirsten writes for the story rather than for a particular genre, allowing each song to find the sound that best serves it. Her catalog moves between serious and dark, reflective and confrontational, and occasionally the humor found in everyday life. What connects the songs is an emphasis on strong lyrics, memorable imagery, emotional honesty, and narratives that give the listener something to recognize in themselves. Now based in East Tennessee, Kirsten draws inspiration from both lived experience and the people, landscapes, contradictions, humor, folklore, and stories around her. Her work ranges from deeply personal songs to fictional narratives and character-driven storytelling. Kirsten uses AI-assisted music production tools to create demos and bring her original lyrics and song concepts to life. The voices heard on the recordings are not her own; they serve as the performers for the songs she writes and develops. Above all, Kirsten writes because there are stories worth telling—and because sometimes a song can say what ordinary conversation cannot.
